CROCOSMIA, Lucifer Crocosmia are native to the coastal regions of South Africa. They were introduced into Europe and the British Isles during the latter half of the 19th century. In the spring, the corms (bulbs) should be planted 4-6 inches deep and 3-4 inches apart. They need well drained and organically rich soil. Lucifer was introduced into the United States in the late 20th century. Lucifer is a Montbretia Hybrid that was introduced into the United States in the late 20th century. The Porcelain and Turban horticultural groups of garlic were basicallyunknown in the US until very recently. They are both very distinctive, but for different reasons. They are both hardneck varieties, so it is essential to plant them in the fall. The Porcelains can best be described with one word – impressive. The plants are huge, with incredibly thick stems up to 1 inch in diameter and statuesque. They can reach a height of 7 feet, but mine never have. My Porcelains areusually about 3 feet tall.
