Description

Hyacinthoides,
Non-Scripta

Native to the Mediterranean region, Hyacinthoides are also known as Scilla and commonly known as English or Spanish Bluebells. The plants were introduced into Europe centuries ago and became enormously popular especially in Britain where they are literally a national symbol of spring.

Non-Scripta is the true English blue bell.  However, it is native to Western Europe including Britain where it grows in woods and meadows.  It is a great naturalizer because it spreads rapidly.  It can be grown in full sun and partial shade.  It has a lovely but subtle fresh spring fragrance.  These plants are deer and critter resistance.  They have been apart of spring English meadows since 1580.  Plant 4-6” deep and 4-6” apart.
